Shameless Fatherly Pride -- Avert Your Eyes!

« previous entry | next entry »
Feb. 21st, 2007 | 10:08 pm

This past weekend, my oldest son finished 11th out of 380 contestants at the regional Math Counts competition, made it to the final eight in the countdown round, and, as team captain, led his school squad to fourth place overall and a spot in the state competition next month. He followed this performance by earning an academic scholarship to the private prep school he decided, at the last minute, he wants to attend next year.

If I could only get him to help wash dishes, he would be golden with me for months, months!

MathCounts rocks. I went to state as a seventh grader and to nationals as an eighth grader, and look how I turned out! (Er. Well, be proud of your kid anyway.)

I may be more excited than he was. But then I can barely add.

Woo! Go, kid! And math! Double woo!

(He's starting to remind me of Drew, who has decided (this week) that he will go to grad school (just doesn't know where yet, of course) for his masters in Middle Eastern history. But a year and a half out of the actual starting date, he is planning how he will come up with the money while not involving our pocketbooks.

I don't care if he never washes a dish of mine again. :P)

If he keeps this up, I will never complain about the dishes.

SJMS does a good job with math. It's kinda cool to see how much some kids end up loving it.

You keep saying that, and people are gonna blame me when it happens.

Also, I saw you tag me for a meme a while back -- I haven't forgotten, I just have to go back and find it again.

Thanks, Louise. I'm at that stage of parenthood where I sometimes get more excited about their accomplishments than I do, say, my own story sales.

(Novel sales are a different matter. I still have school to pay for.)
