As of this minute, there are 801 unanswered emails in my inbox, dating back to Aug 16th of this year, which is the last time I was caught up. I only spend about an hour a day reading and answering email, so most of these are things that I put aside intending some longer or thoughtful reply to. A lot of it is OWW listmail I'd like to comment on. A bunch of it is lj comments I wanted to reply to.

At this point, I'm realizing that I'm not going to reply to most of these messages, especially the listmail and lj comments, and those that I do answer won't get a reply as long or as thoughtful as I intended. But I aim to be caught up again by the end of the year. If you're still waiting for an answer to something, hang on, it's coming.

Dude, with a backlog like that you might as well go with it and start a magazine. :)

(No need to respond. :p)

Deleting is good policy. But so is unsubscribing to lists. If you're on one and pay a lot of attention that isn't a bad thing, but really you have to work to keep up and if you have work to do that often isn't possible.

Just don't forget to read each and every piece of spam.

I find that what works best for clearing super-old backlog is to spend some time each day working from oldest to newest. I usually find so many of the really old things just don't matter any more.

Also, I filter my active lists into separate folders, and periodically clear out the unread messages from those folders.

I'm going to organize a slush Email Bomb.

Um...would you still marry me if I did?

Marry her and get a lot of sympathy mileage out of it later, when you have to work late/extra hours. "Sorry, darling. I'd have more time, but there was this email slush bomb a while back. . ." :))

I sent a note to Jenni Smith Gaynor through support because I didn't know how else to reach her. Just a thank you sort of thing. Should I resend elsewhere?

Nope, that's the right place, and thank you for doing that, it was extraordinarily thoughtful.

Thanks--I'm not the only one who felt grateful.
