"The Third Brain"

John Scalzi's cliche' issue of Subterranean Magazine is now available as a pdf download for free.

Subterranean #4 includes "The Third Brain," a story I co-authored with James Allison. Colleen Mondor, a reviewer for Booklist, Bookslut, and others, is one of the few people in the blogosphere to comment on the story and she liked it: "Who thought a stolen brain story could be so poignant? Who thought a jacket could seem like a pet? Who thought a reader would care? So yeah - brain story good, very very good." She added: "I'm only about halfway through but there's tons of great (and unexpected) writing in here."

As an added bonus, Subterranean Press is running a 40% off sale! Look over their list... Blaylock, Brite, Irvine, Scalzi, Silverberg, Willis, just for starters. You know you want some books.

Yay for that one making it into print!

I still love the coat. What speculation fiction needs is more coats with personality. ;)

Congrats on the story, and thanks for the heads up on the sale. Because of that, I was able to pick up a title I've been meaning to get for a long while.

I've a vague wish that Subterranean had told us they were going to do that, but it's definitely cool -- I like having work online. :) Plus, the cover looks fabulous.

It sort of came together quickly -- we had always planned to do some sort of online presentation of the issue, but the question was when and how. I wanted to get it out there before the end of the year, so the stories could be considered for awards, and now seemed like a good time. Surprise!

Thanks, John. I thought the stories in the issue were great; but, aside from one or two blogs I saw, they seemed to pass by without review despite the good sales for the issue.

Re: Colleen Mondor.

Yeah - I think sending her a pie or somesuch every quarter would have karmic benefits...

But she's a smart cookie.

Mmm, pie.

How come no one sends me pie every quarter?!

I might be able to take care of that. O.O
