Thanks to con com sallytuppence and publicity chair clarkesworld.

ETA: Just got off the phone with raecarson, who was interrupted by tanaise, jmeadows, everyonesakitty, mrissa, and probably some other folks, and now I'm feeling even more in the Bittercon spirit.

At least I can go to the Plant Your Ass Back In Your Chair And Keep Writing panel. I've got a revision to finish.

Cheapest, and with the largest attendance, too. No missed panels, no hotel room costs or restrictions.

Er, this is only the first part of the witches novel, which I turned into a story to try to sell to Gordon. Cause, yanno, Christmas coming up and all. He had a good suggestion for the ending and now I'm trying to make it work.

One must tend to the mammalian companions.

(Unless they go to World Fantasy without one, I suppose.)

Wow, I'm really digging BitterCon.

Of course, just like any convention, I haven't gotten any of the writing done that I planned to do while I'm here.

But hey, had a fun time with the all-day gaming today.

Awww. We miss you. But it's almost like you're here in spirit, because they were handing out Prodigal Troll in the goodie bags and a lot of folks were happy to get it, too. And I got to meet Tim Waggoner who had only nice things to say about you.

But--and this is the worst part--yet again, someone called me the Quiet One. Arrrggggh.

Aw, heck, thanks. I hope folks enjoy The Prodigal Troll. And Tim Waggoner is a great guy -- it's been nice to see him start to have some success with his novels.

As for the whole Quiet One label, I think it's up to you to change it -- whoop it up! Goose Jay Lake in the hallway or something. That wouldn't be too quiet.

sallytuppence and our writing group did our BitterCon thing at a cafe in downtown Nowhere in Particular, a.k.a. Grinnell.

Amazing how portable the programming for BC is.

I work with a Grinnell grad, and I'd have to say that it's Nowhere in Very Particular to judge by her attention to detail.

But who really goes to BC for the programming? I'm here for all the loner sulking and brooding.

If I'd known I was going to be attending BitterCon 2006 I would have put in my scheduled appearance page. Back to the "Write five pages a day minimum" panel.

It's funny how Bittercon kinda sneaks up and claims you even when you didn't plan to attend.

Damn this flu/food poisoning thingy!! *shakes fist* Today would have been full of rushing about and airports. Instead, it's me, the couch, a laptop, and some saltines. Not exactly a goody bag.

So you get to feel sick and have all the post-con crud without the con. Wow, that's pretty darn efficient.

I'm sad you and Toby didn't get to go though -- I was hoping you'd meet Rae. Oh, well, another opportunity will come soon enough. Hope you feel better!

You have a horde of women cooing, "Hi, Charlie!" at you in dulcet tones, and still you are bitter? Golly. There is no pleasing some folk. Next time we will rasp, "Charlie, ya bastard, get off the phone so we can abscond with your woman."

It's not the horde of women cooing at me that makes me bitter... it's the fact that I was a thousand miles away.

Next time, if I'm right there in the room, you can bet I won't be the least bit bitter.

But I'm glad you all had such a great time.

Your absence from Texas was sorely felt.

I hope you can get 'cher butt to Ad Astra next year. I have browbeaten chaosvizier into going. I assume S'Perry will be there, and if we can get you there, I can die happy. Probably by choking on something squirting out my nose around 3pm on the Saturday of the con.

(Seriously, I've been trying to get you three guys in a conversation for years, because I want to see what happens. I'm fairly certain the laws of physics will be violated in some way.)

Ad Astra is a possibility. It depends on what else is going on and whether I've actually finished the new novel or not....

Goodness knows, I could use the fun and amusement!

A) Congratulations on your engagement! I read past that entry when it was on my friends page, I guess... that'll teach me to skim. Best wishes!

B) One of the four poems I sent to F&SF as part of the slush bomb has found a home. "Dear Melody" will be appearing in Sybil's Garage #4.
